How Maggie's Salsa Got Started
Magdalena De La Cruz Cook-Garcia was born in Mexico. She grew up making large meals for her 68 brothers and sisters. When she graduated High School she was recruited by the Mexican National Team to play Basketball. Unfortunately three days later she broke her collarbone, and could not play. Four months later she was recruited
by the University of Charleston, in West Virginia on a scholarship to play Basketball. She graduated with a degree in Interior Design in 2002. In 2004 she started Maggie's Salsa when she was invited to a West Virginia Salsa contest and won by unanimous vote, and was encouraged by friends and family to start her business. In 2006 Maggie be came Vice President of an Interior Design firm in Charleston, West Virginia, and in 2007 resigned her position as Vice President to take on Maggie's Salsa full time when she got a distributing supply contract with the Whole Foods Market. "I started Maggie's Salsa with 6 tomatoes for my first store in West Virginia, not I am preparing over 60,000 tomatoes for my first Whole Foods Order" -Maggie on 04/01/08
